Girls’ Generation’s Yuri Will Leave SM Entertainment


She is the 5th member to leave the company.

Girls’ Generation‘s Yuri has decided to leave SM Entertainment after 19 years with the company.

In a statement shared by SM Entertainment on July 31 KST, the company announced Yuri’s departure from their agency but also shared she will continue to participate in Girls’ Generation’s activities.

We would like to sincerely thank the fans who have shown their endless love for Kwon Yuri.

Following in-depth discussions with Kwon Yuri, we have reached a mutual agreement to conclude our 19 years together on August 31st.

It has been a precious time for SM Entertainment to have been part of every step of Kwon Yuri’s journey, from her debut with Girls’ Generation in 2007, leading the K-pop wave across the world, growing into a group that defined an era, to shining as an actress.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Kwon Yuri, who has shined as an all-around artist across music, acting, variety shows, and MC work.

While her exclusive contract with our company has concluded, her activities as a member of Girls’ Generation will continue as before.

We will be cheering Kwon Yuri on as she embarks on her new journey.

Yuri becomes the 5th member of Girls’ Generation to leave SM Entertainment but stay with the group. Taeyeon, Yoona, and Hyoyeon are still with SM Entertainment while Sunny, Tiffany, Sooyoung, and Seohyun have all left for different agencies.
