A criminal complaint has been filed.
According to reports, ADOR has been slapped with a criminal complaint regarding its alleged mistreatment of NewJeans member Hanni.
On July 28, KST, Korean media outlets reported that cultural critic Kim Seong Su has filed a criminal complaint with the Seoul Yongsan Police Station against the HYBE subsidiary.
Kim held a press conference in front of the police station in the morning of July 28 and announced that he had filed an official complaint against ADOR and its employees over alleged violations of the Personal Information Protection Act. He alleged that ADOR and its employees, who were responsible for handling Hanni’s immigration status and visa, had unlawfully disclosed her personal information and leaked it to third parties for purposes beyond the original intent of collecting the information.
According to the complaint, ADOR acquired and processed details regarding Hanni’s E-6 (entertainment) visa, including the visa type, expiration date, status of extension application documents, and whether she had signed them, during the process of managing her activities and residency status. Kim alleged that this information was then leaked to the media between December 2024 and February 2025.
In his complaint, Kim mentioned a specific report from February 2025 that disclosed the preparation of Hanni’s visa extension documents and her refusal to sign them. He argued that this kind of information would be difficult for anyone to obtain unless an insider were involved. A statement released by the parents of NewJeans members on February 12 of last year was also attached to the complaint as evidence. At the time, the parents had voiced concerns about the infringement on their personal information and rights, noting that approximately 70 speculative articles discussing Hannis’ visa type and expiration date had appeared over the span of two days.
